The Island of Sant’Antioco.

Vineyard

Produced on ungrafted Sardinian vines, with a density of 6.000 vinestocks/hectare, yield 6t/hectare, low-lying hilly position, sandy earth, semi-arid climate.

Vinification

Red, with a maceration of 12 days at a temperature of 28 °C. Partially refined in cement vats for 6 months then further refinement in the bottle for at least 3 months.

Colour

Intense ruby red, with a tendency towards garnet, the longer the re nement period.

Aroma

Intensely winey and persistently ethereal with warm notes of vanilla and typical Mediterranean maquis aromas.

Taste

Dry, amply sapid yet harmoniously intense with a persistent, solid structure.

Serving Suggestions

Roast or braised red meat, wild game, mature cheeses.

Ageing

This wine can withstand long periods of re nement in the bottle at cool temperatures, away from sunlight.

We suggest removing the cork at least 30 minutes before tasting.

The Name

The name Piede Franco is derived from the method of ungrafted vine-growing, that is the vines are grown franco di piede style, or rather with their own roots.
